Suppress the desktop starting QuickBooks or opening a company data file

Suppressing the Desktop is a troubleshooting tool in both QuickBooks for Windows and QuickBooks for Mac:

  • Normally, QuickBooks finds the name and location of the previous data file in the Qbw.ini file and opens that data file. Suppressing the Desktop enables you can start QuickBooks without opening a company file.

  • Depending on your Desktop View preferences, QuickBooks may open transactions, lists, or reports. Suppressing the desktop enables you to open a company data file without any windows open.
